my friends son jsut finished there
he loved it
did geography

I was there but it was "a while" ago!! I loved it. I was at the Art college which is now part of the uni but wasn't when I was there. We still used all the uni facilities.
I was previously at Manchester which I hated. I liked Loughborough because it was a smaller town and possible to get most places on foot or bike. Accommodation was also relatively cheap. I'm not sure if that is still the case. ( I paid £8 a week for a house I shared with 2 friends!)
I had a great 3 years there and I'm sure your dd will too if she goes.

What course? I did my PhD there so have a slightly diff perspective....Is very sporty! It is quite a small toen, but good links to Leicester, down to London, Brum etc.

My friend did chemical engineering there.

Seems like its very insular compared to other places, and of course has a huge sports focus. Friend loved it

Do you think it would be suitable for someone whose quite outgoing and likes there to be a lot going on.

As I said I did my PhD there so perspective is different (didn't live in L'borough), I don't think I would have liked it as a first degree location because as someone has mentioned it is a bit isolated (but not as much as Lancaster where I did my MA!). It isn't that far to Leicester thou' so very much depends what she likes - does she want to be in a city? In which case its a 'no' I'd say...

I would have thought with all the excellant Sports facilities, that it would be great for an outgoing type.

Has your DD looked at The Student Room?

Lilymaid · 13/02/2009 10:02

Loughborough is quite a small town so campus social activities are very important. I went there as a Post Grad ages ago and found it was then very sporty and there didn't seem to be as much going on as at my first university - but that was years ago and Loughborough University has grown massively since then.
However, if you want to go shopping you really need to go to Nottingham - same probably for clubbing!
