My daughter is going to uni this year, I have looked on loads of sites but they don't really go into any details. just wanted information relating to exactly how the grants (the ones not repaid) are means tested.

someone at work told me that my daughters part time job would also be taken into account, but she will be finishing it to go to uni. anyone had experience of being assessed. thanks

Look at the Student Loans Company website. There aren't any free grants anymore - there is a standard tuition fee loan (usually around £3K a year), and then a standard maintenance loan - around £3Kish of which isn't means tested, and then a further amount you can be loaned according to parental income (unless you're a mture student, in which case it's different, I assume).

Then, individual universities will offer bursaries (that's the free grant stuff)to students from low income households - but you'll need to research that on the university websites.
