Is Ecology/Conservation a difficult career to enter?

DS is halfway through his A-levels of Geog, Biology and Environmental Science. He would dearly love to go to University to study Ecology and Conservation.

But research online suggests that there are very few jobs in this sector. (As with many careers after Uni I suppose)
He's been volunteering with our local wildlife trust, but he's worried that with so few opportunities he would limit himself with pointless degree after 4yrs.

Has anybody got any experience in this area?

That's great that he's got some new ideas from this thread. Worth bearing in mind though that he could still do a post grad qualification in Planning whether he does his first degree in Geography or Ecology. There are not many (any?) jobs that specifically require a Geography degree. Good luck!

@SpinelessBastardsAll That’s why Geography is a great first degree. No narrow field of study. It’s broad and gives more options. He could even do surveying or become a volcano expert or get involved in sustainable land use. My DDs friend has become a specialist food buyer after a geography degree. Has finely developed taste buds though!
