How often do parents hear from sons boarding for A-levels?

How often do you hear from your son whilst boarding for A-levels? What is reasonable for me to expect? I was really hoping/wishing for a weekly phone call and some messaging throughout the week, but it’s mainly onesided at the moment. We are only 4 weeks in(not in the UK) and I’ve properly spoken to him once and had quite a few messages. But I still feel completely in the dark about everything in his life right now. How do you all cope with it? 💔

I don't have a son but my daughter has just started boarding for A-levels and she only messages me when she wants me to send her something 😬 To be honest, I guess it's a good sign as she's too busy with new friends and new-found freedom. I miss her like crazy though and stalk her social media for any new stories 😈

Thank you for your reply, it is so hard isn’t it. Will chat to him this weekend to see if we can agree slightly on what can be reasonable. Perhaps he wants me to scale back on my texts too, which would be fine, if he gives us a tiiiny bit more of his life… 🤞🏼

Might be better to ask this on the secondary education board?
