Which other universities offer HSPS besides Cambridge?

Where else other than Cambridge offers HSPS please? Friend’s daughter applying to Cambridge for this degree but struggling to find other options. Anyone have ideas please?

HSPS is unique to Cambridge.

The flexible joint honours courses in Newcastle and Exeter would also be worth considering.

The other alternative would be joint honours degrees in the two HSPS subjects she is most interested in.

Durham has a Combined Social Sciences degree that could end up fairly similar as there is a large range of modules. DS was offered a place though ended up elsewhere.

LSE Sociology or International Social and Public Policy with Politics?

Birmingham offers a degree in Social Sciences, and a degree in Politics and Sociology. They also have different social policy degrees, which look very interesting.

This really depends on what aspect of HSPS appeals most as it includes such an unusual array of disciplines as a subject. This year I have a student who’s doing Anthropology at UCL after an unsuccessful application, last year one who did international relations at LSE. Cambridge are well used to the fact that students will have an array of options.

Oxford offers Human Sciences - more biological in focus but absolutely fascinating degree that covers loads of areas. I do realise you can't apply to Cambridge and Oxford at the same time but worth being aware

Unfortunately the Flexible Combined Honours framework has been discontinued for new entrants at Exeter (though of course they do still offer plenty of joint honours courses).

Birmingham also offers a policy, politics and economics degree.

One of the Scottish unis that offer flexible degrees in Social and Political Sciences. She could choose a joint honours in 2 strands and do outside courses in other strands that interest her in first 2 years.

My DS applied for this and his other choices were ... York sociology and social policy, Birmingham PPE, Bath social policy and Sheffield social sciences . He also considered economic and social history at Glasgow and a few other social policy with... degrees.

He went to Brum in the end but changed degree. He should have chosen the Glasgow degree really.

I think what else exists depends a bit on which bit of the HSPS appeals most as there is also anthropology in there . My DS was most drawn to social policy .

NotDonna , has the DD got Unifrog because we found some of these courses that way. Never would have unearthed the PPE at Birmingham without it.

Just to add UCL offer two variations on human sciences - one human sciences, one arts and science. Very difficult to get onto these courses, they look amazing though ...

A number of unis offer PPL ie. philosophy, politics and law if that may be of interest eg. Warwick, KCL, Birmingham, Surrey.

University of Glasgow they can take 3 subjects yr1 and 2. I’ve seen a post today on instagram I think explaining how it works. So they can do philosophy, psychology and sociology for example.

UCL arts and sciences looks v interesting. Need to be happy to do some language work

My DC does HSPS and also had a strong interest in anthropology when applying. As your friend's DD will be aware, there isn't any way of doing philosophy as part of HSPS, however there is an option to do a political thought paper (various different timeframes) in all 3 years, which obviously crosses over into political philosophy. It is possible to focus more on political thought and less on international relations if that is what they prefer. As far as other unis go my DC applied to CHSS at Durham (where I guess it's possible to do anthropology and philosophy and politics), social anthropology and politics at Edinburgh, social anthropology with politics at LSE etc.
