Casual jobs in hospitality and retail are a nightmare too.

But yes, all bad for young people.

And in 5 years time companies will be complaining that they can’t find anyone with experience (even more than they do now).

Companies have been squeezed too much majorly affecting growth. I don’t think the new employment laws regarding greater rights for casual workers will come in this year, they would just snuff out those roles in hospitality.

Adzuna’s comparative figure was 55,000 back in 2017. Plus showing (for the grad posts they are used for) average salary was just under £26,000 last month.

The recent Milburn report showed if I remember correctly that 1 in 7 NEETs have degrees.

I read somewhere that businesses are spending a bit more to recruit people with experience / a proven track record, rather than on an unproven young graduate who are now quite expensive due to rises in NI and the minimum wage.

Many employers (especially the smaller ones that make up the majority of businesses) can't afford to take a risk on an inexperienced worker if they don't work out as they're expensive and difficult to get rid of.

It's very tough on graduates over the last couple of years and I think will only improve with a reversal of government ideology which I can't really see happening anytime soon.
