Leeds accommodation contract starts before freshers week, when should he move in?

Apologies if there is already a thread for Leeds starters but DS got his accommodation contract today (Central Village) and it says it starts on the 11th September. Does that mean he should go then or wait until the week after when we thought freshers week starts

So the 11th is a friday? Does Freshers start the following monday - so 3 days later? In which case move in the sat or sun? Remember he won't get his student loan until first day of term (normally).

If term isn't until the 21st I wouldn't move in until the weekend before.

My DD is planning on moving in on the Friday. Unimpressed by the greediness of expecting another week’s rent.

But if you go on 19th, then they will miss the Freshers week events, which is fun and a great opportunity to make friends. Im taking my son up on 12th. In his accommodation that's when the rental contract starts, so it makes sense to use it.

Dd is the same - accom opens from the 19th but freshers week isn’t for another week, then lectures starts early October. So essentially 2 weeks of freshers week/ partying - just a way to make more money from them imo - one week is ample

Freshers/welcome week starts on 21 September that week my ds has 3 welcome lectures that's compulsory to attend. Normal lectures start on 28 sept. Freshers/welcome week isn't just about partying. Get him to check his welcome week timetable. Leeds uni

Paying for an extra week at the start is just the beginning ... your contract will probably run until the end of June and DC will usually have finished exams by mid/end of May.
And 2nd year - contract for the house starts on 1st July and no-one is moving in until late September!

My daughter moved in the Thursday before Freshers - quite a lot of them did. We stayed overnight and took her out for breakfast and a bit of shopping on the Friday. She had Saturday/Sunday for finding her way round and meeting with some friends who were in the same halls.

She’s starting her second year and went straight from halls at the end of June and into her house share. Hasn’t been home as she’s got a job and I think of the 9 of them in the house at least 5 of them have stayed over the Summer.

starting accommodation contracts a week earlier also mean arrivals are more spread out and less chaotic for accommodation staff. There will also be a lot of international students whose flights will be spread over a few days prior of freshers week.

if they arrive early they can get a start on looking for a part time job.

Oh yes! Freshers' week is 19th: my mistake, and sorry for confusion. It said somewhere Prefreshers' week (whatever that is) and I misread it.

Still, we both think it will be a calm way to start his move. He can potter around in his new room and find where the local shops and buses are while waiting to wecome his new flatmates.

And it's true that international students need to be catered for with assorted arrival times from international airports.

There is also a long period of rent at the end of the year which has to be paid even though it doesn't coincide with study or exams, as IsThisNameTaken already mentioned.
