Remarking A-Levels and impact on accommodation

My son is having two A-Levels remarked as he’s one point off an A in one subject and two points off in the other.

He's been offered a halls of residence place for his insurance university and given three days to accept it or decline it. If he declines, the university’s guarantee of a place in halls will no longer apply.

I understand the remark takes at least a couple of weeks (is this correct?) and, even if he’s successful and ends up with AAA, his first choice university is not obliged to keep his place open (do I understand this correctly?).

What do people in a similar situation do regarding accommodation? Thanks.

My DC has been in this position, didn’t get first choice they liked a lot, but has had v good comms and great accommodation allocated at insurance choice.

review of a paper is now back and happily now has the grade. first choice said DC could have 2026 offer/place in the event of that happening, don’t know yet if any accommodation is still available.

DC spent 2 weeks adjusting to insurance and getting used to that idea is now unsure what to do.

Priority review took 2 weeks in DC’s case.

Sorry, it was only one week, it must have just felt longer!

Neighbours remark came back the next day. They contacted the college who made them pay 40 pounds and asked for remark. Results came back and she dropped two marks. Didn’t matter to overall result though

Finally got further maths remark back yesterday and gained 5 extra marks 🤯

Still waiting on DC’s first choice uni to confirm DC’s place after the grade change. DC can’t access accommodation info without the student ID number.

@Surreyblah we’re in the same situation. Warwick is his first choice and all campus accommodation has been allocated. Edexcel have a lot to answer for. They have totally messed up his start to uni. But he’s got his first choice and we’re hopeful that accommodation will get sorted…eventually

I Imagine there will also be an option to go onto a waiting list to move as a few people change their minds and withdraw or drop out in term 1. So if the initial accommodation is not ideal it might not be for too long.
