Morning everyone
I have seen similar threads for other universities and thought it could be helpful to have one for Cambridge Freshers. There seems to have been lots of helpful advice on others.
There does seem so much to take in.

My YP has already started thinking about what to wear for matriculation. Where as I am thinking about what type of room will she be assigned and starting a list of all the essentials.

Congratulations proud parents! Appreciate the value of a specific thread for Freshers in the same boat, but there is also a long running thread for Oxbridge parents which is a friendly source of information and support, and new participants are very welcome. Latest incarnation here:

Second TenSheds. The Current Oxbridge Students thread linked must have been running now for at least 8 or 9 years. It's incredibly helpful and full of lovely people covering Oxford & Cambridge. Such a shame if it fizzled out.

The convention is to name subjects, but not colleges as Oxbridge is an incredibly small world.

Presumably she will be wearing an academic gown, just like everyone else?

Take a deep breath and a step back and let your young person deal with it. Its really quite a cossetted environment (in the nicest possible way) so there is plenty of support for them. (The biggest difficulty we found was understanding all the different terms they use for everything). Your job is ensuring theyve got suitable bedding, remembering a towel and advice on basic crockery/kitchenware if theyre self catering.
