Parents of Durham freshers 2026

Thought I would start a new thread for parents of any Durham freshers starting September 2026.

I found the similar thread from last year so helpful in preparation, but don’t want to hijack their thread with our own questions etc.

Lots of information through today from the College and SGIA department for DC - looks like moving in day is 26th but not yet got formal info re: drop off.

Has anyone at Stevo got details for check-in days/times yet?
We live about 5 hours drive away so are quite limited on when we can actually get there. Do the students book the timeslots or does the college issue them?

Is anyone still waiting for final college allocation? DS was provisionally allocated Grey College in June but has not received final confirmation. This is very frustrating as you cannot register as a student or complete the enrolment process until college has been allocated. Anyone else in the same boat?

Oh that’s really hard @ScarletConquering. So sorry to hear that. Was your DS holding Durham as their firm and did they meet the grades?

If I remember correctly from what DD has said, module registration opens on Tuesday. That is for her course though and I’m not actually sure if it’s the same across every faculty.

I really hope your DS hears something in the next few days. I have heard of so many people getting confirmation very quickly, I have to admit I thought that the uni had sorted themselves out after last year’s fiasco.

DS had Durham as his firm and met his offer. I have come across others who are also waiting for final college allocation, also provisionally assigned to Grey. And yes, module registration for his course opens 1st Sept. Hopefully the wait won’t be much longer!🤞

@narrowpath DS 3 years ago could choose am or pm, Sat or Sun and then college allocates. He got Sunday from 1pm which was fine for us as only 2 hours drive away. Freps helped us carry his stuff in and then we took him for a roast lunch as no-one else had arrived on his corridor at that point. Dropped him back about 4pm and the first official welcome event was 5pm. Freshers week is fabulously well organised. Good luck to your DC.

Hi is anyone else's DC waiting for login in details etc to register with Durham and to get details of college allocation? My DC had firmed Durham, was accepted even though was one grade out but has not received the two emails with info to set up account with Durham etc

@Newuser100 My DS is in the same position. I’m hoping we’ll hear something this week.

DD will be in Castle and knows she has a single room shared bathroom, but just wondering if/when we get more information about the exact block she'll be in?! It would be useful to know things like the size of bed (assuming single?), whether she will have a basin in her room etc.

DS will be in Hatfield. He’s says there’s a bedding package £35. We’re travelling a long way, so it might be convenient, but I’m worried about the quality and warmth for that price… has anyone tried it?

Don’t know anything about a bedding package though. As far as I know DD has a duvet and pillow provided in John’s, but she hasn’t been told yet what size bed she’s in and I know there’s a big form she’s to fill out, but it isn’t working and no-one can get on it, so it is certainly possible that any info about paying for bedding is still to come.

Having said that, I read somewhere (maybe on here - maybe not - I can’t remember) that they were pretty thin and ropey so bringing your own is better anyway

Lots of students with parents can be spotted in Tesco and Dunelm buying bedding on arrival weekend.
