When should we start looking at Clearing if first choice is unclear?

Can we apply to clearing tomorrow?
Dd didnt get the grades she wanted but enough we think for her first choice.
Although it hasn't been confirmed by ucas.
We called the uni and they said the offers were still being sent out and to wait.
Her insurance have offered but she won't confirm until she knows if she's got her 1st choice.

Its frustrating as her 1st choice, shes paid for accommodation, talked to the disability people for support and has been told she can get her keys in September but nothing in writing to say she has a place.
She's gone to bed, annoyed and disappointed.
When do we need to look at clearing by if needed?

Really you needed to start looking this morning when she didn’t have a choice and they should have advised you of that. A lot of unis will be out of clearing at this stage.

Start having a look now, submit online forms where they’re available and get a list of numbers ready for tomorrow.

Is she set on not going to her insurance?

Is she reasonably happy enough with her insurance, if she doesn't get her firm? If so, there's not much point going through clearing. She may as well wait for the decision from her firm which will hopefully be early tomorrow. She won't lose her insurance by doing so.

It's surprising that her 1st choice have not confirmed her offer yet. Quite unheard of. Ideally she should have called Clearing today. Dependant on the subject, many courses/unis might be full too. Call 1st choice again and be persistent in receiving an offer. If not, you need to make decisions fast.

This. She doesn’t need clearing if she’s happy with her insurance. If she’s changed her mind about her insurance she should have asked them to release her and been applying for alternatives this morning. Unusual for a firm to not yet have decided though and pretty naughty. I assume they’re debating how much to take her disabilities into account for the dropped grades. Poor of them though.

Pending is definitely a thing, if you miss your grades they wait to see if they can offer you a place or maybe another course at the same uni where there’s space. I think it should say pending on ucas though.
I know someone was pending for 3 days for the first choice before the uni offered. They didn’t accept or decline their insurance until they’d heard from the uni.

I've done an AI chat and apparently as she has a uni student number, paid for accommodation, spoken to disability support, been told how to book in to get her keys and more importantly got the grades. Its just a admin thing.
Does that sound right?

When you say she has the grades, you have confirmation that she has the grades offered? She’s not waiting for a result. Her offer wasn’t dependent on something like a GCSE as well?

Having a student number and paying deposit means absolutely nothing - please ignore AI. And don’t rely on ‘Chat GPT says….’ ever - because AI bots talk shit.

@titchy Yes we have confirmation of the grades offered. We got the grades today and have triple checked the offer- same grades.
