Anyone else nervous about A level and BTEC results day

How are all the Alevel and BTEC results mums holding up? My son applied to UCAS and has to hit high grades in his BTEC. He seems calm and confident. I am nervous but putting on a brave face and staying calm. In the background ive been reading about how Clearing works and getting ready for results day. He wants to live at home so only 2 universities he is considering. First time through this system! Solidarity with other mums navigating this with their teenagers!

Thanks. His college isn't emailing results till later in the day - they want them to go in.

If you think you might need clearing be ready to be there for opening time at school/college as they are potentially at a disadvantage compared to those getting results 8am if school doesn’t open at 8am. Clearing moves quickly.

Thanks. Annoyingly his college doesn't open until 9am. Should we try some clearing numbers before then if that ends up being needed?

You’ll need grades to call.
i think some schools do it so they can offer support and guidance.
My DD’s school emailed everyone at 8am. They were open if you wanted support.

I have a question - why do they have to trek into school to get the results when everything says to get onto clearing asap and courses go so quickly?

Utter cruelty of the individual college IMHO.

they should be able to access them online and then pop into college later when they’ve got everything sorted if they want to catch up with friends.

@AnonyMumAuDHD im thinking so now reading that some schools send emails at 8. Mines in the blinking shower though, never ever has any urgency. So - ucas at 8 and also school at 8 🙄 which one takes priority?
I’m so annoyed I have to drive in, wait, drive back and then have missed at least an hour before he can start with clearing.

Honestly I’d check UCAS. If he has an offer (apparently 90% will have - 80% at first choice) then you can mosey into college. If there’s nothing there, and been unlucky, then you hot foot it in?

DS asked me to get his phone from downstairs. It was on 0%! He told me to 'calm down' when I screeched "It's on zeeeero percent!' Then as soon as he plugged it in saw an email that he'd been accepted into his first choice! Excellent I'm so relieved I don't even care ( that much!) about his actual results!

Thanks @AnonyMumAuDHD we did this - got his first choice! So now going to see grades. He clicked something and we panicked he’d accidentally declined 🤣 but it was just ‘go to application’

I think it’s so strange how they get results in England. Up here (Scotland) they can sign up to get an email and text at 8 am. Much better.

Most schools/colleges near us in England are email 8am and option to go in. I agree it’s so unnecessary.
I know they say they can offer support but I’m sure most yp prefer to cry/react in private and then head in if they need to speak to staff.

DD’s school uploads to an online portal at 8. Much better!

Question: UCAS says “you’ve been placed at x university” and that she’ll hear from them soon. Does she need to do anything else?

Thank you all so much for the support here. DD has got into her first choice and smashed it - 3A* and an A. It’s stupid o clock here so going to try and go back to bed, but glad others are getting good news on this thread this morning too and fingers crossed for everyone!

So one of my colleagues has just posted what her daughter can see and it’s the same. Assume all is well! She’s also had an email from UCAS saying congratulations.

How did he do? :-) I've been over on the other thread since yesterday and can't remember if you're on there.

He got into his first choice! It was all done and dusted by 8.10. Some of his friends didn't get their grades so I'm still wondering if he would have been better off elsewhere. With his grades he could have ' traded up' but he's happy, has accommodation and he's off on holiday! How's your DS?

Well done your DS :-) Mine got his first choice too :-) AAB. His friend didn't do well and accepted a foundation course but he's happy his friend is still going to the same university.
