My daughter has just been allocated Weston Hall at Manchester University and is so disappointed. Has anyone ever successfully managed to change their accommodation before they started? Thanks

Thanks, not sure they will do anything about it. Just sad as for her as it potentially alters the whole experience for her and costs more. She just wants to be with other freshers and WH is run privately so very mixed who will be in there

The uni web site says they rent the whole thing as if it was theirs

My DS was in Weston for his first year & it’s honestly fine, He made friends with others in the same hall and then moved to Fallow for a house share 2nd year

Well I’m very grateful my daughter got Weston Hall now as some haven’t been allocated accommodation still yet and others have been put in Salford or very expensive private halls.

As others said, there are advantages of being near the centre and near lectures! She will find people in her halls that she gets on with, and there are so many places to go out in the city centre and near the universities.
In my experience of studying in Manchester, I never lived in Fallowfield and I never felt at all like I missed out on anything by not spending time in Fallowfield. Each to their own, but I personally saw FF as a boring bubble of students that weren’t keen to integrate into the Manchester scene! Being in Weston Hall means she can have the best of both worlds - one foot in the real world of Mancunians while of course still having another foot in the student life (being in her halls and going to uni stuff and the student-friendly things that happen near the uni and centre). I bet she will love it.
