Student finance confusion

It seems that you need a student bank account to apply for student finance but you can't get a student bank account until after results day. Finance can take up to 14 weeks to arrive in your account, but there isn't 14 weeks between results day and uni starting!

What am I missing here? Or do people apply with any old bank account and then update their details to a student one, once they have their results?

We have just applied for student finance -Dc used their existing bank account.
I don’t even remember it saying anything about student bank accounts, but surely all they mean is it has to be an account in the name of the student?

My two used their existing bank accounts to apply for the loan and changed them at some point later to student terms & conditions.

Great, thanks. Yes, perhaps I misread and it just meant 'a bank account for the student'...

Neither of ours had student accounts, just used existing one.

Mine never had a student account, just a normal one.

Like other posters, our DS just used his own personal bank account that he'd had for a few years beforehand. Never did have a specific "student" bank account.

Yes, that's all it means. A bank account in the student's name.
