I wonder if anyone has any experience? Looking in Rightmove I can see a few houses for about £4k per month with 6 bedrooms. Is that about right/average?

Just trying to finalise uni applications on UCAS and don't want to firm Exeter if we're not going to be able to afford it.

I don’t know about Exeter as such but that's about £660 a month – tbh that is not that high. Some cities will have much cheaper options but plenty will be around that (if not more).

DS is at L'boro and pays only about £100 pm less than that. Leicester is a lot cheaper and I think Sheffield, Brum, Leeds, Newcastle have cheaper options as well, if that is a big concern. What are the other options?

DS paid £780 per month (excluding bills) for 7 bed house in 2nd year (2024/2025) and is paying £804 per month for final year (again excluding bills) starting this September.

Both houses on Danes Road - 10 mins walk from campus and 10 mins walk from city centre.

Can probably get cheaper the further away from campus you are.

That sounds cheap OP. DC is in year 3 at Ex and he paid £800 p/m plus bills for year 2 (6 bed house share) and £950 p/m including bills this year. Both houses 15 min walk to Uni.

Seems a lot, my dd paid £1600 for her house 3 years ago. Process change but seems a big change
