No offer from Loughborough uni yet

DD applied before Christmas for Product Design Engineering, grades in hand, Astar maths, A chemistry A Design Technology.

I am wondering why she has not received an offer yet, my friends son applied with predicted AAB plus already has another A in further maths I think and already got an offer.

Perhaps they don’t like gap years?

Any idea why she has not got an offer yet.

At least she got one for Bristol for Design Engineering but I think she should accept soon.

My DS is at Lboro (posts passim) and his offer from them was the last to come through. It was well into Feb IIRC. He was in year 13 but that may make no difference to the process. There is plenty of time yet – and if she has grades in hand, no worries there either.

Hope she gets what she wants. Lboro is a great uni. So is Bristol mind you (that’s where I went haha).

Thank you; hopefully she will hear soon; it would be good to have a choice after offer days.

It is still very early, OP.

I think the achieved in FM may separate your friend’s DS from the pack, but that is just a guess with my admission tutor hat on.

Blueskiesnotgrey · 31/01/2026 10:51

its too early to accept an offer isn't it? perfectly fine to wait for all 5 decisions I think.

Sunshineflowersbluesky · 31/01/2026 11:50

Thank you. Need to train my patience

My DD applied to Bath a couple years ago. Sent in ucas in November, three A star grades in hand (typical offer was AAB, not a hugely popular course), and while Durham and Glasgow offered within a few weeks Bath took six months! She missed all the offer holder days. Put her right off it to be honest.
But it’s still early. It’s frustrating for sure. Hang in there.

Meadowfinch · 31/01/2026 12:23

My ds is awaiting the same from Cardiff and UEA. Same forecast grades. Engineering degree.

I think some unis wait until the January deadline before issuing offers.

AlohaRose · 31/01/2026 12:56

Why are you rushing your DC to accept an offer at this stage? The existing offer is not going to be withdrawn and universities still have a couple of months in which to make offers and even more time for your child to accept.

poetryandwine · 31/01/2026 13:00

Absolutely no rush to accept, OP!

Ohh, that’s a long time. Did she go to Bath?

No rushing her. She said she will know by middle of March whether she is getting a place or not in the other ones and will accept Bristol if she haven’t heard from Loughborough or Imperial; but IC is a long shot.

Was curious as my friends son got an offer from Loughborough, but hasn’t had one from Bristol. Same courses as DD, so all a bit strange on how this whole uni applications work as I am not English.

I wouldn’t read anything into her not having heard yet - it’s still (just about) only Jan.

Thelessdeceived · 31/01/2026 13:53

DD applied with grades in hand well above the grades needed and got her offer on Friday for Loughborough.

Sunshineflowersbluesky · 31/01/2026 14:01

Thank you all. Hopefully she will know by March.

One thing that DD said is that her personal statement was more relevant to Design Engineering rather of Product Design Engineering.

DS is at Loughborough (2nd year). He got in on the second attempt! The first time he received all his other offers by Christmas but Loughborough (the one he really wanted) didn’t come until late April. It was a rejection. So he then took his A levels and reapplied, took a gap year and got in! It was for Sports Science. It’s a brilliant Uni so please hold tight snd don’t make any rash decisions.

Did she ever hear back in the end? We're still waiting and I thought that everyone had a reply by this time of the year but we've heard nothing

Yes, she got an offer about a month ago. She decided to go to Bristol though and rejected Loughborough
