Hi, long shot but any experience of getting a place despite not being care experienced/fsm or low socio-economic postcode? Is it worth applying if DC is just at a normal non selective state school (top grades and target subject not one of the uber competitive ones)? Thanks

The website says they prioritise those students, so if there are lots of people who fit those criteria they will be prioritised over your child. It doesn’t say you can’t apply but I suppose you have to be prepared for others to have places given to them on the established criteria.

Thanks yes of course and that’s fair enough. Just wondered if anyone had got a place in the past without scoring high on acorn / polar 4 etc

Why do you feel your child might need the summer school engagement if he’s already averagely well supported, @Tiredandcranky54?

I mean - is there some support or experience he’s not able to access? If so, people here might be able to suggest helpful options.

Thanks @TheApocalypticiansApprentice I think the experience of attending lectures and tutorials is always beneficial in helping inform decisions about both subject and uni choices. My eldest was lucky enough to take part in an excellent outreach programme that was run by a Cambridge college because their school at the time was in a link area.

DD had a place for PPE & ended up studying there. The only WP box she ticked was based on postcode. I would definitely encourage your DS to apply. They will prioritise those who tick the most boxes for the residentials, but many others are then invited for a digital programme. He won't be depriving anyone of a place by just applying.
