UCAS not submitted yet - talk me down

DS is at college, UCAS form is done and with his tutor but she still hasn’t submitted it!!! She only wrote his reference this week. I’m so annoyed.

I know it’s a busy time etc etc but this is ridiculous! I work in secondary school, I’m head of careers, so UCAS is my main work this time of year. I can’t imagine colleagues just doing nothing like this!!!! Feels very different when it’s my own DS.

Talk me down - I know it’s a way off Jan 14th but still…. 😩

It’s almost a month away
better to have another round of thinking!

When did he submit - after the college’s internal deadline I’ll bet…. Chill. Get him to chase the first week back. Unis won’t care - there’ll be hardly anyone there before 5 Jan now.

I work in the kind of school where we have loads of early entries… means my own students have peer pressure to get sorted early!

There is no deadline - I checked with their Head of Careers!! Alarmingly she said “staff will aim for the January deadline”!!!!! Its the polar opposite of where I work!

I work with a lot of schools and honestly just because yours is really on the ball it doesn’t mean that your DCs school is wrong to be working to the Jan deadline. It’s an equal consideration deadline, it won’t impact his chances of offers.

ParmaVioletTea · 19/12/2025 18:44

Unless your DS is going for Oxford or Cambridge it’s absolutely fine.

You may be a teacher but you’re not doing your son’s tutor’s job. You have no idea what else she’s juggling.

There is no advantage in being super-early. University places are not offered on a first-come, first-served basis. If you deal with your own pupils’ UCAS forms, you should know this.

PoliteSquid · 19/12/2025 21:12

Rationally I do know that the Jan deadline is equal consideration. As I said in the OP it just feels very different when it’s my own kid!

I’d have been sweating a bit too tbh. My dd’s only went in this week as hers sat with her tutor for a couple of weeks - but she has had 2 offers since yesterday so once it’s in hopefully they’ll come in quickly.

it’ll be fine, it’ll get done 😊

SockFluffInTheBath · 29/12/2025 21:46

OP my DD (yr1 at uni) and DS (yr2) both applied with fassing rassing seconds to spare. They both got 5 offers, and are at their first choices. It’s hard to watch though. Flipping kids 😁

Comefromaway · 29/12/2025 21:57

Can’t see the problem.

when DS was at college the deadline was the Friday they broke up for Christmas. The references were done by 1st week of Jan. I thought that was normal.

I feel for you - we were in the same situation but in the end after 3-4 messages from my DS enquiring whether there was an issue, I emailed the tutor/teachers/head of department. I appreciate it’s their holidays but UCAS have moved the deadline forward from 29th Jan in 2025 to the 14th.

I took the ‘is there an issue or anything we need to amend’ line rather than ‘FFS pull your finger out’ tack but we did get an email to say it was finally submitted on 29th Dec.

There is still plenty of time, however, until 14th, so I’d try not to panic. Am assuming term starts on Monday 5th? If it’s not been submitted then, I would call the college/school then to speak to the director of studies.
