Morning all,

I would like to buy my daughter a camera for her photography studies but there are so many to choose from. I have asked the school and no one got back to me so i thought i would ask here.

Budget is maximum £280

Looking for advice if anyone is a teacher or their children have studied photography on what i should get, thanks in advance

Our DC took GCSE photography a couple of years ago and we were advised that they didn't actually need a camera at all. The school had some dslrs for students to use in class and a good smart phone was sufficient for out of school work.

However, DH did upgrade his camera and pass down his older, quite basic Canon dslr. It's an old style one, not a newer mirror less one, but it was more than fine for the course.

I think you'll struggle to get a current model dslr with lens for your budget. It might be an idea to have a look at Jessops, of your local camera shop if you have one, and see what used bodies they have. Then pick up a lens or two, depending on what budget you have left.

Yeh I agree, with that budget I think you are looking at secondhand. I would deffo scope out a local camera shop and see what they have in the DSLR line.

You say there are a lot to choose from - what sort of thing have you found for that budget?

i have realised i am looking at some non DSLR cameras, i did like the Canon EOS 2000D Camera + EF-S 18-55mm IS II Lens - Black

I can stretch to this amount so maximum more now £335 ish, thank you. I want to buy one for her anyway as she wants to be an artist so this will help in the long run

My son inherited my DSLR for photography coursework, it has been just about the right level and the same model would fit in your budget on EBay: Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FZ1000

For GCSE they will benefit from having a few different lenses and a decent tripod or monopod, you can get unbranded lenses for this fairly cheaply (~£25 each) although they are often 58mm (so you need a £4 'step-down' adapter ring to screw on first that turns it from 62mm to 58mm).

OP,
if you are anywhere near Worcester,
there is a very good 2nd hand camera shop. If you like the idea of being able to see it and get some in-person advice, before buying.

I happened to find myself in Worcester, trying to fill a few hours and came across this shop. Can't remember the name, unfortunately.
