Which university and has AI killed creative degrees? Music Production?

My son is currently in his first year studying Music Production at a local college. I’m sat here looking at the different courses firstly debating how on earth you choose the right one and secondly if his degree will even be relevant in 5 years time. Any help much appreciated!!!

I’m a designer with an undergrad degree and the way I work has changed beyond recognition due to AI. We are constantly being told by our CD to concentrate on purely idea generation because all of the ‘doing’ will soon be done by robots. This is worrying enough for me but I’m concerned that my son is choosing a pathway that will simply close off to him in the future.

Does anyone work in the Music industry? How are you finding it’s affecting your work?

I used to run a pick and pack team in a warehouse. Every man on the team, and a huge proportion of applications, had Music Production degrees.
Like many art degrees, getting a paid role is hard and a career even trickier.
I can't say what impact AI might have, but as far as I am aware the business is hugely about who you know.

I studied Music Technology, and, as pp said, I don't know anybody from my course or wider circle who succeeded in a career in music. And that was before AI.

Thanks @sharkstale . Can you say where you studied?

Nephew studied at Uni of Northampton and really liked it. Did well and is working in the industry at a major arts venue.

Glad to hear a positive story! 💙

Perhaps a better route would be to look into live events production (sound/lighting/stage management) lots of opportunities in those areas, more AI proof I would have thought
