Do your third level students use an iPad for taking notes in lectures?

My son is about to start studying maths in uni and thinks an iPad would be best for taking notes as it would make it easier to organise his notes on his computer.

Do your kids(particularly maths students) use an iPad and if so which one?

For Maths (which I studied) I’d imagine it would be quite tricky to take notes on a tablet, to be honest. I’d say paper and pen would be much faster. The equations could be fairly awkward, and you need to be able to go back and forth between pages quite quickly. I used to take notes on paper and then copy them out after the lecture to make them neater, and file them that way.

I teach third years. I'd say 80% have iPad pros. Goodness knows how they afford one. I can't!

Could someone give a description of the main differences between the basic iPad, the iPad air and the iPad Pro?

Will the basic iPad be sufficient for taking notes during lectures!

DS says an iPad with USB-C pencil or iPad Air with pro pencil would be fine for note taking - the Air is thinner and has an option for a larger screen, as well as charging the pencil while attached to the iPad Air (versus charging using USB-C for the base model) - He uses an 11” Air for Maths notes. He says don’t bother with an Apple Magic Keyboard as you won’t use it. Store notes in the Cloud. DS says it’s the best investment for maths notes.

Look at student discounts - possibly through Unidays or Student Beans.

Jumping on this thread with related question - hope that ok!

What apps to your kids use for taking notes and keeping them organised? We have a family ipad and I think I could make much better use of it for work stuff (science based job) and running the household from it (which I currently feel like I do from my iphone and various bits of paper/reminders strewn about the house)
