Film at Leeds Beckett?

Following on from my other thread. DS said MN gave top advice and has asked me to start a new thread to ask about Leeds Beckett.

DS wants to study Film Making but has changed his mind about his Uni choices 🙄 and now needs to go through clearing. He has approx 120 ucas points in related a-levels so I think would be very much welcomed anywhere that has space.

He has already considered AUB Bournemouth and MMU Manchester.

He's now looking at Leeds Beckett.

He's coming at it very much from the creative side so screenwriting, set design etc rather than the technical side of actually filming, editing etc. He would also really like to focus on film rather than TV and documentaries.

He would really welcome any advice. Thank you 🙏

I have worked with quite a few students from Leeds Beckett as a volunteer actor for their productions. The ones I've worked with are all well-organised, competent at the technical stuff, and confident with directing people in their films. These are all skills that don't come naturally to young people, so I can only assume they have developed these skills from the course.

They do also tend to provide/use their own equipment so that's a consideration (when I did media at a different institution many years ago, we had a bank of video cameras and other equipment that we could sign out/borrow). I don't know if Leeds Beckett don't provide any equipment or if students just prefer to use their own stuff these days as it's all a lot more affordable/portable than when I was at college!

Hopefully you get some responses from actual students, too.

Me again!

People poo poo Guardian league tables but since the others pretty much ignore film, the Guardian is a decent source, alongside Discover Uni

Leeds Beckett is higher than the others he's considered.

He should look at content though . Is there anywhere that offers Creative Writing with film?
