Long shot but has anyone previously succeeded in getting a room in University Halls at the University of Liverpool when they have applied through clearing? Trying to decide whether the hall options we've picked are wasted if there's no chance of getting them!! Thanks

According to the Clearing page on their website they guarantee university accommodation for clearing students who apply by 31 August, unless I'm missing something?

The guarantee includes uni approved private providers such as Kaplan and Unite.

Oh I see. Best of luck getting one of your choices.

Liverpool has more student accommodation than students, they say first years are all out at Greenback but in reality lots prefer to actually be in the city centre in private halls near uni and pubs and clubs.

This is true, you can't move for them building new student halls everywhere! I think it'll be fine.

Greenbank and Philharmonic

I recommend Philharmonic.

Not an answer for you OP but as an ex Liverpool Uni student of over 20 years ago, getting nostalgic. What happened to Carnatic, is it still there?

Cynic17 · 16/08/2025 18:59

@CarlaLemarchant Re Carnatic, Dale has been demolished and houses built there.
The rest of the halls on that site have been closed for years, so presumably more housebuilding is due.

Chris's Chippy keeps going tho!

The halls at Greenbank have been rebuilt.

Starlight40 · 16/08/2025 19:00

Yes you can. My son did. He decided to go to Liverpool John Moores in September last year through clearing. We had 4 weeks notice! He got a flat in Grand Central right opposite Lime Street station. He did ask about accommodation where his friend was staying but they told him it would be a 20 minute walk to his lectures and suggested Grand Central.x

Starlight40 · 16/08/2025 19:01

Might be the wrong uni- sorry!

CarlaLemarchant · 16/08/2025 19:02

Thank you! I used to be in Rankin. Probably should have been condemned before I was even there tbh.

alldressedupinblue · 16/08/2025 19:03

@CarlaLemarchanti was D and R

A more helpful comment for me to make would be not to discount Greenbank. You can spend Years 2 and 3 near town, but Greenbank, near Penny Lane and Sefton Park are heaven.

She would love to be in Greenbank but we’re not sure if it will be fully taken by people who had Liverpool as their firm choice.

My daughter was in Philharmonic and had a great time.

AelinAG · 16/08/2025 21:52

greenbank is lovely if you get it but the bus can be an absolute nightmare plus taxis back from town aren’t as cheap as they were in my day! There really isn’t any bad accommodation offered, and if you don’t like the offer there is sooo much private accommodation.

inspiringcarpet · 17/08/2025 12:25

Thanks everyone. The question was more whether we’re wasting our time even putting the uni accomodation as our preferences given she’s only applied post clearing. Wonder whether we’d be better just putting our top 3 choices for private providers.

OP posts:
AelinAG · 17/08/2025 14:13

Oh definitely not!
A lot of students actually reject their uni offered providers and go private so you’ve got a good chance.

CharlotteLightandDark · 21/08/2025 17:40

My daughter has myrtle court, I think most uni accom is much of a muchness really though. It looks fine to me anyway!

Ahh Carnatic - was also there over 20 years ago. Sad to hear it’s no more!

a sorry completely unhelpful to the OP but has brought back a wave of nostalgia for Uni of Liverpool

I was in Greenbank halls (Roscoe and Gladstone blocks) over 30 years ago 😱 Had a cracking time - copped off with a lot of medical and dentistry students in year 1 because there seemed to a surplus of them in R&G 🤣

annonymousnamechange · 24/08/2025 12:07

Was at philharmonic halls 30 plus years ago!! Went back to Liverpool a few years ago to see they been completely rebuilt. Great site if you can get in there, really handy for uni and a social life

My dc was there, right at the top. Got stuck in the lift once too but they loved being so central amd not having a walk from the station.
