Hi.
Will try to bullet proof this as I tend to waffle and it could get complicated .

Dc 21 years old.

Has AuADHD.

Has had many issues in the past hence 3 years ' behind ' .

He has a place at University.

He receives PIP .

I am on benefits (carers allowance for my mum )

Should he apply for student finance as an independent or via my finances ?

Dc 1 got full loan 6 years ago via my CA .

Does it make a difference to him or the amount ?

The amount is set , right ?

Thank you.

He had to use your details unless he has lived independently from you for a set number of years think it’s 3, or is over 25.

He doesn’t get a choice. Theres a rule set for what counts as independent and either he is or isn’t.

If he lives with you he almost certainly isn’t.

Ohh thank you both so much .
I didn't realize what the independent meant .
Seems obvious now 😔!

You can still be an independent student if you are living with your parents but I doubt that your son is.

Dd is independent and lives with us but she worked full time for three years before going to university. For two of those years she was living in a house share and paying rent. She moved home 1 year before applying but continued to earn a full time wage. For anyone under the age of 26 you have to show that you have been supporting yourself for a minimum of three years before the start of your course. That can be from employment, benefits or a mixture but I wouldn't have thought that PIP alone would be enough unless he was also working.
