Counting down to 14th August 2025

Is anyone else counting down to 8am on 14/08? DS's firm and insurance are at opposite sides of the country (different courses too) and I can't wait to know what's happening. Then throw clearing into the mix... I'm not good with uncertainty. I don't know how our YPs are dealing with it!

Yes, though firm and insurance were the same offer so unless he's completely bombed, firm should be okay. (He got a contextual offer, it was the uni he wanted to go to). He doesn't seem concerned. Accommodation is all booked but he hasn't booked he's moving in date so I assume he's waiting for results to be confirmed first. If he has missed the grades, we have bigger things to worry about.

Yes, very nervous here for two DCs waiting for A level results. You may not have seen this very relevant thread yet? www.mumsnet.com/talk/further_education/5380219-2025-a-level-results-day-and-sept-uni-starters-all-welcome?utm_campaign=thread&utm_medium=share

Thank you! No, I hadn’t seen it. I’ll get over there now…. 😀

It’s all a bit of a whirl here. DD decided to ditch her insurance and has been looking at what’s in clearing to find an alternative. That’s turned into thinking of ditching the firm for a different course at a different uni for the ‘perfect’ course she’s now found 🙈

Periodicnamechanger · 07/08/2025 22:03

My DS is a dreamer and after all the open days (we went to a lot!) is considering courses at universities he didn’t visit, if there are ‘bargains’ to be had. Can’t wait for results day to get a decision!

Bit nervous here. DD’s subject combo (which is not obviously niche) proved to be strangely hard to achieve and, as the chips fell, she can only do it at her firm so there’s a lot riding on it! (Her insurance is for a different course).

Best of luck to everyone!

Was it your DD who moved from Modern Languages to Social Policy?

Yes, good memory! She’s looking at global development now, which isn’t hugely different, just a bigger stage so to speak,

SockFluffInTheBath · 10/08/2025 10:18

Lost part of my post, oops.

She’s looking at UEA (where her brother has just finished a very happy first year, but spit of disgust at ‘following’ him) and Leeds Beckett. But either would be through clearing so it’s not entirely her choice. She promised to be easier than her brother who changed his course after a-level exams, but it’s been a real rollercoaster right to the end!

What's eating me at the moment is that unis have had the results for weeks already.

I think they got them Thursday/Friday just gone.

They have had them a few weeks for sure. I work in primary education and always assumed like schools, they only got the results the day before, but a friend who works in admissions for our local uni told me a couple of weeks ago that they've been processing them already.

Theretheretheretherethere · 10/08/2025 10:58

It depends which results you are talking about.
If it's A Levels, then they didn't get them until Friday.
If it's Scottish qualifications or IB then, yes, they did get them weeks ago.

SockFluffInTheBath · 10/08/2025 21:21

DD still set on her firm, so fingers crossed. She’s going camping with a friend tomorrow for a couple of days to pass the countdown.

Very excited and a bit nervous. Waiting to hear if DS2 meets his Cambridge Maths offer. He's worked so hard and going to Cambridge is his dream, he'd be the first in our extended family to make it to Oxbridge. I home educated him as a single working parent to GCSE level and his first experience of formal school was 6th form. He's done amazingly to get this far, tomorrow's results will mean he's made it over the final hurdle. Waiting in anticipation for results of 4 A levels and STEP.

Oh good luck to your DS. Incredible job of home Ed!! DD is also waiting on Cambridge for Comp Sci. Hopefully by this time tomorrow we'll all be celebrating.

Very exciting, hope she gets the results she needs. Was there a Cambridge exam too or is the offer just based on A level results?

Lampzade · 13/08/2025 18:09

Best of luck to everyone’s DCs.
My three of mine are thankfully past this stage but I remember the trepidation

Just the TMUA. Ha at "just" as it caused much anxiety. Not as critical as it is for Maths and certainly not like Step. DD has a friend waiting on Alevel/step for Maths too.

So proud of my amazing son. He has had his place confirmed for Peterhouse College at Cambridge University for Maths. He got 4 A stars for his A levels and grade S for both STEP exams.

Incredible news! You must be so pleased and proud. 3 A*s and an A here with a confirmed place at Clare College. Enjoy celebrating 🍾

Those ^ are both some seriously good results - congrats to you and yours! DD off to Warwick for maths & stats, am thrilled for her and seriously relieved after many anxious moments about the FM result which was in the end totally unwarranted. PHEW and let the celebrations begin!
