My sons graduation is next week and I am so looking forward to it.

What did you all do on your DC day to make it special?

Ds only had one normal year at university (if you can call it normal, as he did most of the 4 years online, due to covid) so he didn’t really know many people on his course so he was happy to have a family meal, a few drinks then home.

dd has a big circle of friends, they’ve all been on holiday together and they all regularly go for nights out so the plan next year will be to have a meal out and then she meets all her friends at night for a night out to celebrate the last 5 years of uni!

We followed DS's lead. A picnic lunch and a glass of fizz was provided after the ceremony. We had a posh early dinner then DS went off with friends and came back late to the flat we had rented.

DD's graduation is next week and we're assuming it will be similar. Early dinner then off with friends. DS is buying his sister flowers because apparently that is the done thing.

Awww Thank you for sharing your special days.

After reading all your replies I feel happy with what we are doing.

We have paid for everything… gap gown, new suit, shoes etc.

Booked an evening meal and bought him a football shirt for the team he supports to hand to him at the meal.

I like the idea of taking along some fizz and glasses for photos. Xx

It was such a nice day. We went along for the photos which came up so nicely. I never thought we would scrub up so well! I had not expected to feel as emotional during the ceremony as I did. Luckily, I managed not to cry!

She then went off for a drink with a friend and we met for the most lovely meal in the evening. with a beautiful view. We then stayed the night and then set off early back home the next day. It was the loveliest day. Just thinking about it now makes me smile.

there was no drama, it was just a warm relaxed day.

That sounds like such a lovely day. I hope our day goes as well as that tomorrow. 🤞

Dd1 had her graduation recently and it was a beautiful day .
Booked a nice hotel because we didn’t want to be driving to the university town on the day of the graduation ( 11am start) .
Attended the ceremony with dh, and her siblings and grandma .
Bought her flowers, took loads of photos and then had a lovely lunch
Dd1 was extremely happy

We made a little holiday of it and had a few nights at a nice hotel booked 6 months ahead so the rates were good.
As her ceremony was early morning we stayed the night before and we stayed the day after graduation to enjoy the city.
We let her choose restaurants for evening meals at places she’d wanted to eat at but could never afford as a student. We were happy to do so as we’d never visited much while she was studying there.
On the day, we got her flowers and were pretty much led by her, took lots of photos, went for a pub lunch with her friends and their families, restaurant in the evening then back to the hotel where she had a rest before going clubbing with friends.
It was a lovely time and she seemed very happy.

Dh and I got dressed up and took him and his gf out for nice dinner. Took lots of photos.Hung about when he seemed at a loose end and stepped aside when he wanted to be with his mates. No flowers, but would probably do that for a girl. Didn't moan about the queuing, the heat, or the annoying / attention-seeking 'Free Palestine' student 😂.
