My son only just has decided that he does not want to continue with his engineering apprenticeship and would like to go to university instead. Is he too late for this year? I know that ucas normally has to completed by January but I wondered if there is any kind of clearing or last minute option with ucas?

Former ‘polys’ are often much more supportive and organised at teaching as they are judged on this not just focusing on research. Portsmouth has a good reputation in this field and good links with industry and typical offer from 112 ucas points www.port.ac.uk/study/courses/undergraduate/beng-meng-civil-engineering

@Daisiesanddaffodils24Maths is vital. He simply couldn’t do civils without maths. No need for Further maths. Look at former polys. Certainly Portsmouth and the ones I listed are possibilities but he would have to do the foundation. That’s probably leading to BEng. However it’s the best route without maths A level.

Thank you everyone for your input. I really appreciate your help and knowledge and everyone has been so helpful. Hopefully we can get him sorted and on the right path for what he wants.

@Daisiesanddaffodils24 If both of you want to know more about Civil Engineering look at Ice.org.uk and scroll down to the “what is civil engineering” section. He could also look at what membership brings - there’s a section for school pupils and undergrads. So there’s quite a bit of info out there. Also make sure he does an accredited course.
