Trump has just ordered all US embassies worldwide to stop scheduling visa interviews for foreign students with immediate effect. WTF???

No, it's fine. I understand you perfectly @GeneralPeter.Grin

Then why the pretence? It’s a waste of everyone’s time, not least your own.

I did wonder at your difficulty with primary-age prefixes, but didn’t want to assume bad faith. More fool me I guess!

Anyway, enjoy the weekend.

TooBigForMyBoots · 30/05/2025 18:50

One thing I did learn about prefixes in primary school was how and where to use them. I also learnt that you cant go around sticking random prefixes on words. If you are unsure of the rules I recommend The Dictionary. Or do a wee search for Susie Dent on the internet. She's a whizz on this.😁

I suppose MNetting could be considered a waste of time, but I find it enjoyable @GeneralPeter.😊

Otherwise I wouldn't be here.🤷‍♀️

Maybe I used words that are too hard. Sometimes that happens online because everyone is different and knows different words.

Would you still like to communicate? If yes, I can try to write more simply.

I can’t spend very long though because I have other things to do too.

Is there a bit you don’t understand that you want me to do again?

Crikey, I thought I had a regrettable tendency to be an overly sarcastic, passive-aggressive arse but after that display I feel much better about myself.

petermaddog · 30/05/2025 20:07

he thinks he still in realty show

GeneralPeter · 30/05/2025 20:22

@TooBigForMyBoots

I still don’t get the pretending not to understand though. Words, concepts, arguments. You don’t advance your point, and your interlocutor (ask Susie Dent) eventually figures you are either a troll or an idiot.

GeneralPeter · 30/05/2025 20:29

@GasperyJacquesRoberts I do appreciate the recognition from a fellow artist, but it’s not a good habit! I really try to give the benefit of the doubt for as long as possible. Beyond that point, there’s this:

As I said @GeneralPeter, I understand you perfectly. And I didn't even need to read the books you recommended.😆

Rude.Hmm

You're not wrestling with anything are you?. You're Mnetting, just like me.Grin

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 31/05/2025 21:43

Interesting but shocking to read what Trump said to Springsteen. That he should “shut his mouth” before he returns to the US. He mentioned other artists, too. He is making it plain that free speech is out, and he’s coming for them. I wonder if people in the US are considering who will be next.

TooBigForMyBoots · 31/05/2025 23:07

Trump, along with his administration are suppressing "free speech". Nowhere is this more apparent than the impact on research, universities, the student body and the illegal treatment of individual students.Shock

The USA is not the country it was and the rest of the world is dealing with that. As are American citizens.

Maybe it's better for our young people to study elsewhere while America works itself out.Smile

You need to dig much deeper than just thinking negatively about President Trump.
If you haven’t been following US politics for the past 8yrs+, then it won’t be obvious.

It won’t be surprising to me when people understand that what has been going on at Harvard is way worse than visa issues.

Flyswats · 02/06/2025 14:35

poetryandwine · 29/05/2025 08:12

I agree the commutes are brutal. Not defending that. But Californians do them on well maintained motorways, at least four lanes in each direction.

As you move inland house prices fall off sharply and that experienced nurse and her senior school teacher husband ( whom, we have established, should be able to but cannot afford to live closer to their jobs) likely go home to a house with 4 BR, a good sitting room and a huge living kitchen, two or three large bathrooms, central air con, a two or three car garage, (not all to the non-American taste) and a nearby supermarket with produce that still makes me green with envy.

Aside from the commute, a solid middle class life

You are having a laugh. I have been living in LA for many years. Having theories about places and jobs is one thing, living in an actual place with the realities right there is another.

They added an extra lane to one of the freeways not long ago and having 5 lines either side actually added 10 minutes to everyone's commute because more cars came onto the road. Please don't talk to me about freeways.

As you can see from my quoted text, I was pointing out that Trump had instructed all US embassies world wide to halt visa interviews for all foreign students applying to any and all US universities (so not just Harvard). I am well aware that Harvard has had many issues over the years - maybe you’d like to expand on your slightly cryptic post? FWIW, I lived in America for many years, and my DS recently returned from university in the States, so I’m not entirely ignorant of American politics. And I will always think negatively of Trump - he is a vile, corrupt narcissist without a single redeeming feature

How much stronger than ‘brutal’ would you like me to be in the characterisation of your commute before you conclude that I am not having a laugh?

I obviously haven’t spent 20 years living in LA but have ample experience of the CA freeway system, thanks.

You think those things about him without knowing the real him.
He will literally go down in history as the President who saved the world.
in case you’re wondering what I’m mostly on about….

Wow, do enlighten me since you know the real Trump so well… Did he become the champion of the fight against human trafficking before or after his great friend Jeffrey Epstein’s death? And he ‘literally’ won’t go down in history as the President who saved the world. Unless he’s planning on saving it all for his billionaire bros and dictator mates

Edited

You thinking he was friends with Epstein proves you haven’t researched anything about the real President Trump, or you would already know he wasn’t friends with him.
Nothing I tell you here will convince you of anything and that’s fine.
There is so much information available online but people refuse to find it and if they do see something, they refuse to believe it, and that’s ok too.

GasperyJacquesRoberts · 02/06/2025 17:10

I think it would be an incredibly valuable skill for you to learn to identify when someone is telling blatant lies. Because if you think Trump will make the slightest dent into worldwide human trafficking then you really need to do some proper research into Trump's long and voluminous history of making grandiose statements that turn out to be utter bullshit.

What, like you refusing to believe all the photos of Trump and Epstein which I found online - I don’t refuse to believe any of them, so there’s that

Oh goodness me, are there really people so gullible as you @Verbena17 ?

I remember when I was a teenager in the late 1970s being warned about the white slavers in Leicester Square, just as my grandmother had been warned about the white slavers in Leicester Square in the 1920s ...

Gullible? I think you mean uses my own discernment, stands up for freedom, understands what’s going on behind the scenes (largest military operation ever) and doesn’t take the word of pharmaceutical companies to run my life 😉
What does your ‘white slavers’ bit supposed to mean in relation to my post?
