Hello. Just wondering if anyone has a DC at Edinburgh who knows anything about Shrubhill? Ds has been allocated so not much to be done if it isn't nice, but grateful for any thoughts before he signs on the dotted line!

Not a student but I stay close.
He will be fine it's walking distance into the city centre and has great transport links
It's located on leith walk but closer to town rather them leith

Haven't been inside but looks really nice

My DD had a friend who stayed there in 1st year. She was keen for an ensuite. Friend liked it. If eligible for a free bus pass then apply in case your DS can't be bothered to walk

Derail but can I ask when your son put his 5 preferences in?

DS has only just put his in so wondering when we might hear.

Thanks so much@Scottishdreams1991and @PearlStork- that's heartening!

@StressedLP1 he only put in his choices on Sunday night and got the email on Monday morning....then you have three days to accept. All rather quicker than he was expecting.

Another Edinburgher here. It's a great central location. Good transport links and very easy walk to uni through town centre. He gets to see the fantastic Old Town skyline every day on the walk in.Tesco nearby at Canonmills, loads of cafes on Leith Walk, walkable distance to Pilrig park and Botanic Gardens.

DS has friends there this year. Good for town, new buildings. Not ideal if you are a science student based at King's buildings. Luckily under 22s get free bus travel in Scotland!

Blimey that’s fast! I wasn’t expecting to hear until after results day!

They're nice. My niece stayed there. Nice area, close to the centre of town and easily walkable to George Square area. Buses too if you don't feel like walking. I like Leith Walk. There's lots happening.
The location is not great if you are studying at King's Buildings every day. But maybe there's some sort of transport provided from George Square? There was in my day. But I'm old

PearlStork · 21/05/2025 09:35

In 1st year many Science students are in George Square a lot anyway - larger lectures/less labs. DDs BF who is in Kings all the time still prefers to live in Old Town area (jumps on shuttle bus to get to Kings).

OP, I presume your DS has an unconditional offer? DD has a conditional offer at Edinburgh and has requested accomm choices but isn't expecting to hear till results day?
