Hi, ds has left it until now to put his choices in for college. How does catering work please? We within to go intoa catered college so we know he'll get some decent meals. Will he have togo back to the college for lunch? Some of the colleges offer self catering and catered- how does he select catered?

Any advice or help would be much appreciated. Thanks 😊

At Durham you are provided 3 meals a day during term time in your college. There is also the option to order a packed lunch if you are not going to be in college. The MouthfulofMarys posts daily menus on instagram which will be the same for all colleges except St John’s and St Chads.

I am not sure how the part catered colleges work, but guessing they will be able to state a preference, but there will be no guarantee. At Cuths there is an option to purchase a 10 meal package at the if you are in the self catered accommodation at Parson’s Fields.

Hi @Perzival my DS also left it until today to do his choices. He initially thought he wanted to SC but after looking around a few colleges he opted for a mix of SC & catered for his top choices. Catered colleges will always have a packed lunch option.

The selection between SC & catered at colleges like Cuth's & Castle isn't offered until after results day, so make sure your DC will be happy with either.

You're welcome @Perzival
You may also find the info on this slide useful after results day, it's from the VP of Cuth's but will apply to all colleges

My dd is at Chads in her 2nd year - living out next year but back in college next.

as has been mentioned up thread Chads and Johns have their own caterers so have different menus (including puddings and breakfast pastries which were cut from DU catering two years back). You can see pics of Chads food on Chads Chompers Insta.

in answer to the ‘do you go back for lunch?’ Yes - Chads is v close to everywhere but you can get college to make you a packed lunch.
