Funding SFE January intake

My son started uni in September 2024 but changed course in January 2025.
He's only just found out by checking his SFE account that the next payment date will be in September.

Can someone please advise if this is correct???

The Uni have told him he will be following the 'January' funding lines for the duration of the course.

As he transferred course he will be in at Uni later so till July and will go back again in September.

He's had payments in September 24
January 25

and now nothing till September 25???

This can't be correct.

He was supposed to be recieving £3900 but with the 2 payments will only get £2k.
This isn't due to our household income going up.

How can the January payment of 1300 be enough to last till September?????

He’s changed cohort - if he was given funding for the summer term, as if he started in September, then he’d run out at the end as he’ll still have a term to go when the September cohort had finished. Effectively he’s used up an extra term from Sep to Dec 2024.

SFE do have a team that considers compelling personal circumstances so might be worth getting in touch with them.

@titchy Thank you for replying .
He recieved payment in September 24
then January 25 and that's it.
He hasn't had an April payment.
I'm confused as to how this would work as it's still only 2 payments and not 3.

He restarts in September how would the funding be ? Would it still only be 2 payments as they said it would be 'January funding lines for the duration of the course '.

We're waiting to hear back but as you can understand very stressed!

You get three payments per year of course. He is now on a Jan to December year. So his September payment will be the third payment he’ll have had for his first year.

@titchy Thank you so much for responding ❤️

So he's at uni till July then will go back in September.

He's due another payment in September for year 2 but that still means for year 1 he will have had 2 payments?

What months should he be getting payment as a January cohort intake ?

But in September he will still be in the first year of the programme. Yes he’ll have been at uni for a full year, but the first term no longer counts as he’s changed course and effectively started again in January. He has had one extra term of loan - the amount he got in Sep 2024.

Payments are always, Sep/Jan/Apr - it’s just that he’s had an overpayment (last Sep) so has to miss the April payment to make up for it.
