Has he consulted with his university’s careers service? Or the Employability tutor in his department? Did he do any summer placements or internships in his field? Has he made contact with any visiting speakers after their talks? Is he involved in his university’s film society ? These will all be useful starting points for finding useful placements for his year in industry.

He might also think of all the surrounding skills in film production- project management, accountancy (there are specialist film accounts services) marketing and so on.

There won’t be pre-arranged placements in a Film Studies programme but there will be advice and help. We hold regular employability sessions for students in my department (cognate Humanities one) but find the take up from students is not great.
