Graduation gown - disappointed

I've passed my level 7 PgDip and I've just found out it's the same robe as someone who has got a level 5 certificate

It just feels a bit disappointing - gown/hood colour and design represents the level of qualification

Am I being big headed/unreasonabke?

Most of the universities that I've worked on the ceremonies have different sleeves for undergrad and masters, although all the robes are generally black. Undergrad sleeves are full with a wide opening, masters are much longer and sewn up at the end, and you put your hands through a slit halfway down the sleeve. (Side note, don't put your phone in the sleeve of a masters gown as a convenient storage place, we get a lot of lost phones this way when the gowns are returned and we have no way of identifying the owner).
The hoods for various undergrad, masters, postgrad, pg cert etc are often all different, but the differences can be very small, eg the same trim, but different widths.
The hats are a pain, we hate them.

My daughter’s PhD gown was much less impressive than the BSc ones at her uni, and none wore hats either.

DH’s U of London PhD gown and cap was far more impressive than my Oxford DPhil equivalent. Boo hiss.

My dad bought an old book in a secondhand bookshop about 40 years ago that detailed all the gowns and hoods for all the universities in the UK... apparently so we could pick where and what we studied based on the prettiest options!

There were thousands of combinations then, and many, many more today. I do remember that some of the more elite establishments and very competitive courses were rather boring considering the work required to wear them.

I can't even remember what colour my own was was anymore!

Congratulations, and don't worry about it.
