Crash course in York please?

DD put it on her UCAS form as her aspirational choice, didn’t expect an offer but got one. It’s a very doable offer so she’s likely to firm it.

Any tips on halls and the uni in general please? It’s a social sciences degree (for location). We’re familiar with York as a city, but going from scratch on the university.

DD heading into second year in Sept. She’s very anxious and very home-loving it once she settled in has enjoyed it. Beautiful city.

Now that dd has year 2 accommodation sorted she’s looking forward to going back.

@JoanThursday I think dd finds York a friendly uni. Ford’s can I ask if many students opt to take a year work experience and does the uni help find this?

@JoanThursday
My Dd has just finished year 2. She will start her placement year on the first of July.
With regards to finding placements, the uni does help, but you have to go and ask. My Dd was desperate to get a place, so she was in the placement office constantly….. She applied for about 30, got offered three. It’s def hard work, and I would suggest she starts early.
Dd had two placements secured by Christmas.
The students who left it until Easter really struggled, both to secure placements ( even though a few more are released) and with fitting assessments and interviews in around exams etc…

That’s really useful to know thank you! Hope your dd enjoys her placement. Is it in York?

@Pinkfluffypencilcase
No it’s not in York.
A large city a bit further south. With a big international company , but in a smallish department

Sounds like she has done very well.

Yes, she’s really happy
But to be fair, all of her friend group got good placements, they’re all happy.
Placement accommodation however is another matter……

Yes I can imagine that’s tough. I think dd would like to dis placement but not the if she loses her friendship group. Esp as it too a while to settle in.
