nephew not received student loan yet

My nephew is really struggling financially as still hasn’t received his student loan. It seems there has been a mix- up with the forms. His mum has called but just ends up going round in circles on the phone with them saying it will be a few more weeks… for weeks now.

He has a part-time job, has taken on overtime and night shifts to pay his way, his parents have been helping out but have nothing left. He is struggling to keep up with his studies and living costs.

Anyone else in this position?

He should be the one chasing not his mum! Was it submitted on time?

Tell him to go to Student Welfare or Wellbeing as people who can help with chasing up things like this, and also ask them about how he can apply to their student hardship fund or whatever his university calls their emergency financial fund. They should be able to make him a loan to help.

He has been but getting nowhere so his Mum is also trying to help but she is getting the same response “just a few more weeks”.

He should go and see student services for help and advice.

They may have some sway. Or at least a buffer.

Thank you, I will let him know.

if by any chance he’s in the north east, just go to their office at Darlington (lingfield point) with his documents and they’ll sort him right out.

i used to do this rather than sort via mail as was so much quicker (15 years ago eek) and they were always very helpful.

i work near there now and some of my current colleagues who worked there recently and have said they’re still really helpful with taking walk ins.

you don’t need an appointment to do this, it’s obviously not advertised… one of their best kept secrets!

What have they said the problem is? Did he apply by the deadline?

He needs to speak to his university and let them know there is an issue because his tuition won’t have been paid either

Student Welfare or equivalent can call SFE/SLC on his behalf, and with his consent and will be able to ask the "right questions" to see what the hold up is.
