My daughter has got interviews coming up at Oxford for Music… can anyone share their experience (their DCs experience) as she is feeling a bit overwhelmed! Thanks in advance… 🙂

DS1 is in his third year doing music at Oxford. From memory his interviews were more around his organ scholarship, but his one academic interview was based around the essay he'd put in. Coincidentally his interviewer was a specialist in the particular area the essay was about so they had a very interesting discussion.

Thanks so much Grumpy, that’s really helpful. Was he ‘tested’ on music either by being given some music to look at / analyse / identify or listen to do you know?

My DS is a second year music student and he had 2 interviews. He received very detailed emails from both colleges about what the interviews would consist of.
Going from these emails I think that maybe each college has a different way of conducting their interviews.
His second interview he was given 2 pieces of material to study 20 minutes before having to discuss them. There was an invigilator online with him during the study time. I think the actual interview was 20-25 long.
The interview for his chosen college was done in four parts and he needed access to a piano. This was a much longer process and it involved reading a text, listening to a piece of music, a chorale and a harmony test. This interview was just over 90 minutes which included a study period of about 40 minutes.
He really enjoyed both interviews and said that all the professors were really nice and made him feel at ease.
Good luck to your daughter.

@sparkles18 Now you mention that - DS1 also had a series of similar live online tests - particularly the ones using the piano.

Thank you both so much… super helpful. She has received quite detailed interview info from one college (not her chosen college), but not (yet) from the other. We’ll have to wait and see what they have to say… Great to hear that they put your DS at his ease Sparkles… 😀
