Economics courses in clearing?

Does anyone happen to know from the last couple of years whether many RG/higher tier/mid tier unis tend to go in clearing for Economics?

York was in clearing for Economics and Finance & Economics and Mathematics on results day with ABB with a B in Maths A level for home students.

For more competitive courses it's unlikely but in the past universities like Exeter and Nottingham will accept a student with dropped grades. For Bristol and Bath it's highly unlikely they will accepted dropped grades or go into clearing.
(I have a dc applying for economics this year and another who dropped a grade and missed a bath offer a couple of years ago hence my interest).

I would be interested to know if Leeds accepts dropped grades for economics or economics and finance on results day.

How about universities like Cardiff/Liverpool/Leicester etc?

I think Leeds is unlikely - I know a YP who failed to get an econ offer from Leeds with grades in hand of A star AAA.

Leicester and Cardiff perhaps more likely but the thing is with clearing, you can’t bank on it as it changes from year to year.

Was 2024 clearing data an anomaly with v low clearing offers and increased number of places due to drop in number of international students taking up places? If so will unis be better prepared this year and put out more offers to home students in the first place?

There was a thread on here with someone considering a clearing place for economics at Cardiff this year so that must have been in.

Loughborough was in clearing for the last couple of years

York and Newcastle in clearing this year. I know Nottingham also took a reduced grade for a student who had firmed them.

If you follow the link, you can see final offers which were made for each university and course including clearing. Lots of them come down even ones you sometimes might not expect.

Sheffield, Lancaster Liverpool all had Economics or Economics/Finance in clearing this year.

Leeds is very unlikely to offer places to lower grades on results days. Their offer rate is only 55% - it would be interesting to know how they select candidates as I know students who did not get offers who met all the entry criteria and were above grade requirements.

Cardiff was in this year as was Southampton and Loughborough.

crazycrofter · 04/11/2024 18:17

Do you know what grades Cardiff, for example, were asking for?
