Student loans & universal credits for loan parents

I'm really ticked off that I am now in my final year of my art degree and had the misfortune to be migrated over to universal credit recently. Only to discover that they have taken my loan as earnings and have significantly reduced to £300pm. I'm not keep up with travel expenses let alone able to buy materials and equipment and anything else I'll need. Please could someone advise if there is anything I can do?

Please take into consideration the following:

  • single mum of 3
  • in temporary accommodation (UC doesn't pay the rent element)
  • self employed (off sick)
  • studying full time
Feel free to ask any relevant questions.

Would love some feedback from anyone with similar experiences and/or advice.

Go straight to the Money Advice service at your university - they’ll be able to help with this, but also help you access the hardship fund in the meantime.

Did you inform tax credits that you was a full time student in receipt of tax credits/income support when you started your course?
