Birmingham and Exeter - insurance accommodation

PartoftheBand · 16/10/2024 11:39

I'm aware neither of these unis guarantee accommodation for insurance students. At the Exeter open day we were told that most insurance students do get uni accommodation, as there's plenty available.

Does anyone have a DC at either location who accepted it as an insurance offer, and did they get a place in halls?

Thanks

I'd like to know this too!

Anybody got any insights into either of these?

My DC has gone to Exeter this year but it was their 1st choice. They did not get any of their preferred accommodation choices but did get a uni halls and its nice//modern. From a parents Facebook group chat it seems that this year the uni struggled for sufficient accommodation and a lot of insurance students did not get uni owned accommodation. Saying that it sounds like it was an outlier of a year and it is not usually like that and there are plenty of private halls in the same area as uni halls so there was no shortage of accommodation. It was just a bit stressful waiting to hear if you would get / needed to organise a private halls.

I had a web chat with someone in Exeter admissions who said in 2023/24 they provided uni accomm for over 95% of all first years (firm, ins & clearing) but the figure was lower this year but couldn't give me a percentage. They don't give preference to insurance students over clearing, it's first come first served after results day.

I also spoke to someone at Birmingham who was slightly more vague, said that most of their accommodation goes to firm students, but they do have some for ins, or will help them find private halls or houses. Vaguely sounded like they prioritise clearing students but not sure.

Any other insights welcome!
