Getting deposit back on student house

Does anyone know how to put the hard word on student house letting agents? DSD's letting agents have been dragging their feet - no contact at all since June - and I want to start throwing my weight around. Is there a magic word that works in a strongly-worded letter? Obviously will do a polite message first but want the best possible threat in reserve in case they don't respond.

Isn't it held in a deposit protection scheme? The Tenants should have been told where it was
If so then you can apply directly to the scheme online and the Agent has to dispute it

That's helpful, thank you. I haven't had much to do with DSD's housing apart from scrubbing the black mould so I didn't know about that, but she was talking about it today and I want to help. I'll tell her to approach the protection scheme because I'm pretty sure that was in place.

Just to say - most schemes have a 3 month limit (usually from the date you move out) so you need to act quickly - check the terms of the scheme. If you've missed the deadline under the relevant scheme then you may have to consider the small claims court if they're not responding.

Oh blimey! We had better get onto it! Thank you.
