DD is looking at Reading for next year. The halls are £200-350pw but I’d like an idea of what prices like when they rent houses with friends in subsequent years if anyone can help please.

I work for a student utility package company and on average for a group of 4 (for example) £160pppw with bills included. So I do recommend a bills package included with rent payments

Thanks @custardcreamx is that specific to Reading? DS at uni is already costing me £900 a month so I need to plan!

Yes! With looking at the area on our site, that's about average for Reading. Of course it can go higher based on the property itself and the landlord. So definitely have a shop around. Even spare room.com is a good site to use!

£350 pw? Does that come with a gold plated ensuite? Surely that's for a flat for students with families. You can get places in halls at Reading from around £150 - £170 per week (just asked DN who is a 4th year)

Mum5net · 14/09/2024 17:19

Professionals, not students, paying £800-£850 ppm to include shared facilities but own en-suite. Includes CT and bills, according to my Godson. So remove £100 for.CT, as a guess, £750 might be top end cost?

About £600 pcm including bills. In a private house you have to pay for 12 months, it’s painful when they have such long holidays and aren’t even there.

And a butler and a pony 😅 I got that from the uni website but it may have been more than a single room. I’d hope so as it’s more than my mortgage! Thank you for your DN’s input.

DS is at Reading University. He paid £550 inc bills in his 2nd year (5 sharing), this year he is paying £450 (exc bills) 6 sharing. They have 2 bathrooms, a large kitchen, diner/lounge and a roof terrace. 10 minutes walk from the university.

SockFluffInTheBath · 17/09/2024 18:33

That sounds a bit more like it, thanks @Oldowl
