Any ideas very welcome!

Standard backpack? Cross body? Laptop ? Satchel?

Don't know where to start!

I’ve seen lots of people asking this on TikTok.

My dd uses a standard backpack that fits everything she needs. She used a backpack at secondary school too sand backpacks match her fashion style.

DS uses a standard black backpack, same one he used at sixth form. I’m pretty sure his girlfriend uses the same sort of thing, but she seems to have a couple of colour options.

They all seem to just have laptops for notes, so maybe a laptop cover and a notepad a a couple of pens need to fit inside.

Ratherbeaspoonthanafork · 25/08/2024 17:39

My two (DS and DD) both use a black rucksack style bag thats designed to hold a laptop for Uni.

Really? Is this serious?

Are you asking because you are going? Or buying for a 19 year old.

Do kids not buy their own bags.. I thought uni was here are some old pots and pans a budget for Ikea and off they go!

Clearly you have never ventured onto WIWIKAU ..

Can't the one going to uni decide? I can't imagine my parents being involved in my bag choice at uni.

Dramalama55 · 25/08/2024 18:11

Yes this is true they will choose 😺

Was just curious what others do!

@Jorvik1 just had to google that!

ShamblesRock · 25/08/2024 18:23

I'd imagine my DD will use a rucksack, like she did all through school and college.

CrossCuntry · 25/08/2024 20:14

I had a laptop rucksack - perfect for safely carrying water bottle notebooks and laptop. I'm not particularly trendy though just wanted something to protect the laptop and be comfortable to carry!

Whatever they choose they may end up lugging around for hours, on and off buses if it's anything like my uni life

EnjoyingTheSilence · 25/08/2024 20:16

Does it matter what anyone else uses? Surely your dc will decide what they want to use and is best for them

ineedtogwtoutbeforeitatoohot · 25/08/2024 22:03

Ask the adult that's going to uni maybe ?

Hillarious · 25/08/2024 22:24

I’m sure your YP has an opinion.

ClipTap · 25/08/2024 22:43

When DS start uni in September he'll just take his current backpack and buy whatever needs as and when he needs it

TheNinthLock · 25/08/2024 22:46

DD uses a ROKA backpack - she bought it when she started her A levels and is about to start her final year at uni with it - it is still going strong!

SpanielintheWorks · 25/08/2024 22:47

Since you ask...

One has a elderly Fjallraven, the other something decrepit from Tesco that at least has a laptop sleeve.

stonedaisy · 25/08/2024 23:06

Fjallraven

ha, yes I thought that!

Its eye opening the lengths some parents are going to...did I really see that the new duvet sets are washed before being used?! Like you do with a new born baby?

I imagine DS1 will use his current rucksack!

fortyfifty · 27/08/2024 13:42

There's no 'wrong' thing to wear or use at uni. That's the beauty of being somewhere surrounded by 10000+ other students.

Probably best to keep using what they've been using for 6th form and then they can buy something once there if it doesn't work.

My DD used a tote bag that seemed really impractical for traveling in by bus during 2nd year but that was her choice (even if I sometimes commented that a backpack would be more sensible) 😀

RampantIvy · 28/08/2024 22:17

DD used her Kanken backpack that she had at 6th form. She is 24 now and it is still going strong. They are indestructable.
