DS is off to uni in September. Are there any essentials he should have aside from pots, pans, towels etc? He’ll be in halls with shared bathroom.

Sent ours with an Air Fryer 😂

Consider sending them with a double sized duvet and cover.

Year 2 onwards they are likely to have double beds and it's also cosier if sharing Wink

A flu jab.

We live in a large university city, and the charity shops near the campus are stuffed with household items, many of which were donated by students who left in June (the less conscientious ones just dumped them outside their houses - the amount of waste at the end of the academic year is horrifying). So it's really easy and cheap to pick up cutlery, crockery, storage etc if you haven't brought what you need).
And if your children are in rented houses, please encourage them to put their wheelie bins out on the correct day, and to compact their rubbish so that it isn't overflowing onto the pavement and attracting rats.

Breville sandwich toaster - great way of making friends.

An open mind, some spare mugs and a tin of cake

That's how I made some of my best friends.

Cables, files, medicines, pots, pans, airers, towels, melon ballers etc can all be bought locally.

Fantastic replies, thank you all! I'm going to have to make a list or I will forget!

@TrackerBar Don't forget that melon baller!

Yes to charity shops. My old plates and pans found a new home in y2. Recycle and reuse. Bin liners excluded. Take some.

A desk lamp if there isn’t an integral one.

I wish Amazon Prime had been around when I went to uni in the early 1990s!

I wouldn't buy full sets of anything, as there won't be space for it all. We took a couple of plates/pasta bowl/couple of knives/fork/spoons, a pint glass/couple of mugs etc from home. He took one saucepan big enough for pasta and small one for sauce etc.
