MH and waiting lists are in the mix.

No. If she’s already been referred I’d stick with the home GP

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 19/08/2024 08:04

No. DD has stuck with her home one. If they need a GO urgently at uni they can sign on as a temp patient as you would if you were on holiday

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 19/08/2024 08:04

GP not go sorry

No, when we were in a similar situation (also on a MH waiting list) we relied on our Beneden cover when DC was at uni. Might be worth considering. It’s about £16 a month pp.

I’ve bought it for our family for years but I’m sure that the GP cover is an instant benefit on joining. They guarantee a GP appt with a doctor in the UK by phone or video call within 24 hours.

Bunnyannesummers · 19/08/2024 08:41

No it’s one or the other. Is DC easily able to get home to see your GP/NHS services?

mewkins · 19/08/2024 09:17

I think you can register with a temporary GP at uni or some unis have a GP attached to them? I was at uni (years ago) at the other end of the country so had to temporarily register.

What is Beneden?

Twiglets1 · 19/08/2024 09:22

No. The best thing would be for your daughter to stick with her home GP. If she needs to see a doctor while at uni she can still see one but will have to complete a form that’s all.

Doesn’t student health exist anymore?I stayed with my own gp in another city, and used the student health service of the city l was in.

This was normal.

Lots of campus unis have a health centre on campus. But you’re still supposed to be registered with them to use their GP service ( or fill out a form if you’re registered elsewhere, as previously mentioned)

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 19/08/2024 09:31

We could register but it didn’t affect where our GP was.

It was a different service. You just used it without any records required.

Unfortunately he registered with a campus GP which is awful. We need to register back with our GP but don’t know if you can. He needs to go on the autism and afhd waiting list too. I have read that with Anorexia you can have 2 Gps so was wondering if you can with other MH difficulties.

Dd ended up registering with the GP near her Uni, so far so good, she's had fast referral to the hospital next door to Uni. the GP also gave her enough meds to last through the summer hols.
When she's home she sees our GP as a visitor.

You can. Exactly the same thing happened to my daughter and she had no problems switching back to her home GP.
