Any ideas for ´lower' offers for mech or aero engineering ?

Without having to look through every uni individually ? Everywhere is asking for at least three As. If we want insurance offers, how much lower should we be looking and where ?

What are the predicted grades?
And how confident are they if getting them?

Surrey is ABB. (my ds does CS there and is happy with but dont know much about engineering)

Sheffield have gone into clearing for aero at BBC

Liverpool used to be lower, don't know if it still is. I think DS was offered ABB and actually got in on BBC.

Uni of Sheffield ? I'm really surprised. They have said at the open day they don't expect to go into clearing.

You can search for courses on ucas and refine by how many points you need.

We have been looking at:
Swansea
Newcastle
Lancaster
Strathclyde

these are lower for masters in mech eng.

Cardiff Uni is ABB for mech engineering.

Look at the old polytechnics, they seem to be lower. Especially in cities where there are more than one uni - Manchester met is 104-112 UCAS points for example.

Just checked clearing, Sheffield is not currently it for either.

Leicester does some great Engineering courses, not RG but also not ex poly so sometimes gets overlooked.

Coventry?

Look at Scottish universities like Strathclyde and Heriot Watt. Y1 entry requirements will be lower as long as you're happy to look at 4 year degrees

Queens Belfast - ABB for BSc mech eng and aero, AAB for MEng.

Surrey also has a good reputation. Cardiff worth a look.

You should be looking at MEng if wanting to work in industry and be chartered.

But you really need to do the leg work yourselves, based upon where is feasible to travel to, what kind of uni you want (campus / non campus), checking courses are accredited etc.

My apologies, info came from DH, could well be Sheffield Hallam (DH is a professor, so you’d think he’d have a bit more about him when it comes to universities )

BEng at uni which allows you to switch to MEng if you do well enough in 1st/2nd year. DDs BF did that (mech+electrical).

Lots of slightly lower tariff unis with good engineering schools, great facilities, strong links with industry and fun places to be a student such as:

NTU Nottingham Trent
UWE Bristol

Bristol uni offer contextual offers for a huge list of schools. we were very surprised our DD school was on the list. Hopefully she will be going as she firmed it for sept, results permitting, her offer for engineering is ABB although she is predicted 3x A*. https://www.bristol.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/entry-requirements-qualifications/contextual-offers/

DD had Liverpool Uni as her insurance choice as they would take you on lower grades for the BEng - and you could the carry on to the MEng if your 1st year results were good (both courses were the same in the 1st year). We were impressed when we looked round - the facilities were very good. Her firm choice was A-star, AA (which she made).
