Taking additional A leve in gap year

DD only decided what she wanted to study in year 12 after choosing her options; the degree she wants requires physics which she didn’t take. Where can she take the additional A level, assume she has to go to a private school for it? Where? How long does it take and how much it cost?

The open university certificate seems like a good option. I am wondering if you can do that and sit the A level exam privately? I assumed the university won’t accept the certificate and still expect the A level.

This whole university process seems a bit daunting.

Worth investigating and then asking the admissions tutors of the courses she's interested in. They are quite understanding of the problems of a) making the wrong choice at the start of year 12 and b) the difficulties that can crop up if someone is trying to take an A level in a year without the financial resources for the likes of MPW. If your DD has good grades in the subjects she is taking now that will stand her in good stead and looking for a practical solution and taking physics in her gap year will be a clear demonstration of her commitment and interest.

Just spotted that @poetryandwine hasn't commented on this thread. As a former RG STEM admissions tutor I've seen her give very generously of her time to provide excellent advice on other threads so think she may have just missed this one. Hopefully she'll spot the tag and pop over here with her views.
