NC for this 😎
DS is an English student at Strath. There aren’t many English students, the only time this has been an issue for DS is when there’s an England match on - he then tends to go to the West End, the fancy part of the city that Glasgow Uni is in, as there are loads of English people there. He goes to the races in other places and has been to Edinburgh a few times, which he finds at the other end of the spectrum student wise - very yah and English! Could just be the events he’s been to.
Strath is in the middle of the city centre so is absolutely fantastic if your DC wants to be in the centre of things. DS is v into his nightlife and has a ball and has seen many live bands - it’s a massive student city with 5 unis!
Strath has an international reputation as outstanding for engineering, plus business. Its strapline is “the place of useful learning” and its industry links are excellent.
Be aware that most degrees are 4 years but that Strath offers RUK students 1 year free, plus certainly when DS started they had a £1k accommodation bursary for RUK students too.
Accommodation is fairly standard for a major UK city - around £7.5k pa. Large student houses can be hard to come by because of Scottish HMO rules but there is now a plethora of private student halls so there will always be something available.
Glasgow is a fantastic place to be a student - we are in Southern England so once a year it’s a PITA drive of 7.5 hours but the rest of the time he just flies home without luggage (wears lots of clothes!) and can easily pick up a flight to London with eg EasyJet for around £25. Bus travel is free for U24s so gets a free bus to airport - and has bussed to Edinburgh to stay with friends too for free. Also free dental and hygienist under 26!
Definitely go visit if you can. Recommend the newly built Social Hub hotel as a place to stay, cheap as chips and very central.
