I'm thinking of getting DS the Men B vaccine before starting university, anyone else?

He's had MENACWY in the last few years but not Men B. Men B is quite expensive, around £200.

Yes I am struggling to find anywhere very locally though.

Mine had it a few years ago. Dont regret it as my dad had men in his 50s and nearly died. Well worth the money

My daughter got hers at 17. We live in the US and pediatrician strongly recommended it for any student who would be going on to University.

Yes I am going to give it to DS before he goes off to Uni

Do you have a Lifestyle chemist nearby? I have found them quite good for vaccines.

Is it also recommended for students if they are living at home do you know? We will probably get it done anyway, but out of interest?

They are still going to mix with other students though. Aren’t they? Parties etc? If just going into lectures and living as a hermit crab, then maybe don’t bother. Socialising is the risk - usually.

I took my 18 year old to Boots for the first dose this week. Each dose is £120 and he will have the second one in 4-6 weeks time.

DD got hers done last year after A level exams and before starting Uni. She booked it at Superdrug, a friend had hers done at Boots. Sore arm for a couple of days and you have to time it well as need two jabs a month apart but worth if you can afford it and feel conflicted for those who can’t afford it.

Ours had it at Boots.
