Today I learned about the relatively substantial social media presence of the Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge Admissions and Outreach Teams. It’s organised on SM under the name above (which Mumsnet rejects in the body of a text) They have hundreds of short videos on Instagram and Tik Tok (sp?) and, apparently, a good presence on X.
Some of the material is generally useful for university applications; for example, the Director of Admissions Dr Chris Scott has a video on what makes a good PS and there are several videos on uni applications. Some is pure outreach, such as an invitation to pupils to participate in Reading Groups. Some introduce pupils to university life in general and Cambridge or G&C in particular.
The aim seems to be to connect pupils with HE overall and Oxbridge in particular. Based on my sampling it does a very good job.
I didn’t know whether this was now typical of Oxbridge so I searched the Outreach materials of half a dozen colleges from both institutions. There is a lot of activity, but much of it is organised through schools and/or is presented more formally (though it is equally valuable). The caius schools materials seem much the most YP friendly of what I found. That isn’t to deny the possibility that I missed a treasure trove. If I did perhaps someone will enlighten us
