It’s a big decision. When you are making big decisions, do you seek others inputs? Particularly people you trust? Well this is the same thing. You provide counsel for them. Go if you can

Not sure what you mean exactly but is the question 'should I go to university'?
No I don't ask other people for advice. Because I'm an adult with loads of life experiences. And a student should really know if they want to go to uni, largely depending on future goals.
Which uni is another question altogether and yes I'd hope if struggling to decide they might ask for input, but ultimately the decision is theirs (my DD was not really interested in my opinion). Sitting down and going through pros and cons without opining one way or the other will be more useful.

I think that many 18 year olds (or younger prospective students or those without a lot of life experience) have heavy pressure to either go to university or not go to university, depending on their family background or the schools they go to.

So I would advise prospective students to genuinely look at the options available to them and make a decision on what is right for them - not to pick an option simply because it's the expected thing or everyone else in their family does that.

Was this meant as a response on one of the threads about open days and whether parents should go with their kids or not?

TizerorFizz · 18/06/2024 16:44

I was wondering that. If so, did it need another thread?

If it’s go to uni if you can, I’m not sure that’s the best advice. Lots to consider.
